Assessment for children should be not limited to just mental assessment. A child can show extreme intelligence through books but may have no social skills what so ever. Children should have some type of assessment but it should be a broad range of assessing. The schools in my area have an assessment for children but I think the assessment does not show the child's full potential they are capable of doing.

South Korea trys to incorporate instructional learning along with play activities in their Kindergarten programs. If a weakness is found in a child's knowledge or skills the teacher must try to overcome the weakness.

  1. I also believe that testing should not be limited to a mental assessment. We are always told to look at the whole child and to work with them from there. Why then do we have tests that look for specific areas and not all areas? We all learn differently and are needs need to be accomidated. I can see how we can use them to find struggles and provided assistance in areas of need. What do we use these test for anyway? Teachers tend to teach to the test :(

  2. I think testing plays a big role. We cannot assume something a child need. Testing can tell use things that we need to know. Testing can help a child better themselves for their future. Without testing some children would be lost because the caregivers would not know what methods to use when it come down to teaching. Teachers teach the test but without the test and how to analyze the test the teachers would not know what to do when it comes down to testing.
