My Connections to Play
One quote I loved was
“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”Plato
“Work consists of whatever a body is obliged to do. Play consists of whatever a body is not obliged to do.” Mark Twain
When I was a child, play was definitely a huge part of my day. I remember going outside and playing for hours with my siblings. We would not even want to come into to eat. Playing was a great time for my family, we rode bikes, played in the creek, did gymnastics in the yard and just anything to be outside.
I use to love playing kick ball in school or at home. I loved sports.
My siblings and I use to do gymnastics as children and we would use a parachute just like this one in the picture.
When I was younger, I can remember my mother telling us to go outside and play. It did not matter if it was hot or cold. We played in the snow and in the summer outside. My mother encouraged us to play outside as much as possible.
Play today is somewhat different than when I was a child. I use to love playing outside. My mother did not allow us to sit in the house playing computer games or any video game for that matter. We spent most of our summers riding bikes, playing in the creek, working in the garden, rolling in the grass or playing some type of game outside. I used my imagination for play and I learned how to play with others and play was a huge part of my childhood.

I too had a similar experience with play outside. My mother did not care that it was 100 degrees, we were to be outside. I agree that it is different now because movies, video games, inside activities are more readily available. Thanks for your blog!
