  1. Hi Teresa
Interesting post. I liked how the newsletter outlined a very good method to help children come out and forget about their poverty and medical issues. Art is a perfect tool that could take children to another world, and promote them to explore their abilities. I also liked the idea of how artistic program helped children to focus on important matters that would help them to develop as emotionally, and cognitively. This program really renders good services to cater children’s needs in many different countries.

  2. Teresa,

I can very much relate to your post. My husband travels to over 80 nursing homes every month and provides musical entertainment for them. When studying about music therapy for coursework towards an MBA degree, I learned how very important the arts are in healing "toxic stress" that our webcast discussed in class thus far. I can only imagine how one would successfully change the focus of a child from such deep poverty and toxic stresses towards something light hearted. Then, I thought about the show M.A.S.H that I grew up watching with my dad and, now continue watching with my husband. I can see how imperitive such outlets can be.

  3. What a great outlet for children. I think as adults, that we forget that children often do not have a clue about self expression. The times that they do try to express themselves is shoved away by current curriculums. Children are not robots, they learn and love through play, where thay are able to self express while having fun.

  4. I absolutely LOVE art, music, and dance! Healing and Education through the Arts (HEART) approach to artistic expression through drawing, painting, music, drama, and dance help children in need to find an outlet in their world. HEART helps children heal emotionally and assists in learning critical skills. I love that the Save the Children Foundation helps train local teachers and caregivers in: guiding children in expressive arts activities, engaging the arts as a means for self-expression and critical skill development, recognizing and supporting children who need special help, and involving children’s parents and communities in the process. What a great program!
