Since this course has begun, I have thought about what I would like to research and narrow it down. My first decision was "building individualized curriculum." This topic is too broad and I wanted to research "Learning through Play." Play is so important for children to experience and I wanted to research this topic because schools have reduced the amount of play children participate in. I think this is such an interesting topic and I am excited to learn as much as I can.
I also chose play to research. Iam strongly believe that play is integral part of children's learning. When children play, they learn and gain valuable lesson such us solving problems, taking turn, sharing, and exploring their worlds. Thus, I feel that teachers and schools need to allocate more time for children to play instead of eliminating it from programs, and strive to find the best strategies that can help them integrate play in their children’s education.
ReplyDeleteTeresa,
ReplyDeleteI, too, am a big advocator of learning through play. Here are some articles I have read that may help you in your research:
Cherry, C. (1976). Creative play for the developing child: early lifehood education through play. Fearon Pitman.
Dodge, D. T., Colker, L. J., Heroman, C., & Bickart, T. S. (2002). The creative curriculum for preschool. Washington, DC: Teaching Strategies.
Isenberg, J. P., & Quisenberry, N. (2002). A Position Paper of the Association for Childhood Education International PLAY: Essential for all Children. Childhood Education, 79(1), 33-39.
PERKINS, E., & TAYLOR, P. (2009). LEARNING THROUGH PLAY. Journal of the Institute of Mental Subnormality (APEX), 4(1), 34-34.
The research of play is a wonderful topic to research. In taking course at Walden I learn the value of play. I knew play was very important but reading about play made me realize why it is so necessary for children development.
ReplyDeleteYour right play is very important for children, especially young children. Play allows children to explore, discover, and develop social interaction with others. The articles Tina listed for play sound interesting and I will be reading up to find more ways to explain to parents why play is so important in their child's development.
