The person I think of when who demonstrates competent communication is my boss, Sally. She is a very up-beat and kind person. She is truthful and she is very positive when she talks to you. She also listens to others and takes their feelings into consideration. She communicates well with everyone and tries to problem solve whenever others may have a problem. She gives honest answers to questions. I would like to be able to listen more to others as she, and help others work out situations.
It is great to have a supervisor who you can watch and learn from. I have had a few that made me want to pull my hair out, but even then I have tried to learn from them what not to do. It was a big moment when I found myself saying, "oh I hate having to read all these performance standards during staff trainings, but I totally understand why she does it that way". It seems that great communication skills and leadership positions do not always go hand-in-hand, so I am happy to have this course to explore the issue further.
ReplyDeleteTeresa,
ReplyDeleteIt is great that your boss is such a great communicator. I believe it is important to have someone in your professional life who communicates well and having this person as a boss is a bonus.

ReplyDeleteI think what you pointed out that your boss gives off the sense that she is truthful when she talks is part of what helps her be a good problem solver. It is an important communication skill to have.
